Gahagan and Greg Brown, Learfield CEO at that time, had numerous conversations about how to integrate those standalone business units because they had always operated autonomously. These moves to integrate and streamline Learfield’s business complete some final steps in the process to fully unify Learfield and IMG College after their Dec. “In simple terms, everything starts with data, which then powers the groups we now have in place to drive growth across the board – from tech and digital marketing, to licensing, to creative for brands and MMR.” Learfield’s re-organization “allows us to streamline our operations to become more agile and more innovative to drive growth in all areas of the business, but especially in multimedia rights,” Gahagan said. Rob Carolla, director of industry relations marketing, has departed as well. Learfield said its employee reduction affected just under 3%, or 68 employees, out of the total headcount of 2,300. The marketing functions that she previously ran will now fall into Moss’s brand management and marketing organization. Davis was named Learfield’s chief marketing and communications officer 18 months ago. He was an honoree in the SBJ Forty Under 40 class of 2019. Schneider, the chief content, development and strategy officer, joined Learfield in 2018 and had been the company’s lead innovation strategist. Both of those moves are the result of the executive reorganization, Gahagan said, but he added that there would not be substantial cuts in terms of employee headcount. Learfield also is undergoing some changes at the senior leadership level, as Rob Schneider and Jennifer Davis are no longer with the company. Mathan most recently was a senior investment strategist for Atairos, the firm that owns a piece of Learfield. The final piece to the puzzle is Ben Mathan, the newly hired chief strategy officer, who will coordinate and implement the company-wide data and analytics initiatives.Learfield works with 170 collegiate properties, ranging from blue-chip brands like Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma and North Carolina to conferences and arenas. Learfield Exec VP Mike Hamilton will continue to run the university partnership group on the company’s multimedia rights business.Moss’s title will become president of licensing, marketing & brand management. Cory Moss, the veteran leader of CLC, will work on marketing, design and brand management, all in one division.This has probably been the busiest area for Learfield in the last two years, given the development of programs like Allied, Allied+, a new partnership with Opendorse and Compass, the NIL navigation tool. NIL operations will flow up through EVP Solly Fulp, who has 20-plus years in college athletics and has developed much of Learfield’s NIL strategy to this point.Kim Damron will be president over digital and tech, which includes Paciolan, Sidearm and the digital marketing infrastructure.Those units will be digital and technology/innovation licensing and marketing NIL growth and development multimedia rights and data management: The individual businesses within Learfield will continue to operate under its brand names - CLC, Paciolan, ANC, Sidearm Sports - but five key operating units will evolve from the streamlining process, Gahagan said.
